Raise Money with a Texas Hold 'Em Night!
Do you have a good cause, group or organization that needs to raise some much needed funds for a special occasion or on-going operating expenses? If you've considered ideas like a bake sale, garage sale or other ways that just don't seem like everyone can get on board; consider something that everyone can do - set up a Texas Hold 'Em Night and the winnings will go towards your good cause. Planning Your Texas Hold 'Em NightYou won't need much. If you have a large number of people that will attend, you can rent a local hall for the evening and some places will donate space for your cause as their own contribution, it never hurts to ask! Set up tables and chairs, table toppers will make it look a lot more professional and are a very affordable choice as opposed to having poker tables from your own and others' homes brought in. You will need several sets of poker chips and decks of cards. Last but not least, you will need dealers, people that understand the very easy to play game of Texas Hold 'Em. Add in some music - either from a DJ (perhaps one of your group members has access to a PA system and music) and put together munchies. It doesn't have to be anything elaborate, chips, dips, veggies, small sandwiches, large bowls of salad and other easy to prepare fingerfoods and easy-to-eat-and-play foods will be best. For additional money raising, you may consider setting up a cash bar. And that's it, call your local merchants to get as much donated as you can and ask your members to look around and bring the items they can spare for the night. You'll find after it's all said and done, you'll have to spend very little to pull off a very successful Texas Hold 'Em Night. Labels: card-shuffle, cards, poker, poker-party, texas-holdem

Poker News: Massachusetts House Defeats Casino Bill Banning Online Poker
Good news for lovers of online poker. The controversial Massachusetts bill that would allow three resort-style casinos while criminalizing online gambling was defeated by a House vote of 106-48 on Thursday. The defeat of the bill that was proposed by Governor Deval Patrick had become a hot topic and the defeat was happily celebrated by House Speaker Salvatore F. DiMasi, who was opposed to the bill in part due to what he believed were unrealistic portrayals of the money the casinos would generate for the state of Massachusetts. Thursday's House vote ensured that the bill could not come up again for debate until next year at the earliest. On Wednesday, the House Joint Committee on Economic Development and Emerging Technologies voted 10-8 to reject the bill prior to sending it to the House floor. Without a vote of support from the committee, the bill would face an uphill battle in a full House vote. The narrow margin was a result of key abstention by Democratic Representative Robert L. Rice Jr. Prior to the committee vote, Rice had been considered a supporter of the bill by those lobbying in its behalf. To some extent they were correct about Rice, he does support certain types of casino gambling for the state however this bill contained a provision for the criminalization of online gambling and Rice was uncomfortable with that aspect of it. "I didn't disagree with the concept; I disagreed with the specifics," said Rice. "I thought that by abstaining, it would give me flexibility to do what I'm doing." During the six hour debate on the House floor, Rice attempted to introduce an amendment that would remove the online gambling criminalization provision, but by that time, the momentum to defeat the bill in any form was already too strong. If you live in Massachusetts and you love to log on and play Texas Hold 'Em, you still can! Labels: cards, poker, poker-party, poker-practice, texas-holdem

Insider Tips for Choosing a Poker Table
You never thought it would happen to you. You had no idea what all the fuss was about. Why did everyone love getting together for those games of poker? What was the attraction? And so you gave in a played a few hands and quite simply : you were hooked. Now you're planning poker parties are your own home and you're shopping around for a poker table of your own - but which one? A good poker table is one that you and your friends can enjoy playing cards at. One of the main features of a good poker table is a roundness or octagonal shape. This enables everyone to be facing everyone else all times and will allow for more players to be seated as opposed to a square table. Also it is important for all players to have equal access to the middle of the table. A good smooth surface is also a necessity. The cards should be able to slide easily without turning over unexpectedly. Wooden poker tables should be finished to a high polish to make them slick. Sturdiness is another factor that you will need in a poker table. With all the players leaning on the outside of the table with their elbows and the occasional slapping down of cards, a poker table has to be strong enough to take a little abuse from the players. Size is another consideration, the poker table should be a size that allows all players to reach the middle without having to stand up or lean too far into the table. How often you play poker will be another factor in choosing your poker table. If you only play occasionally, a poker table top that fits over another table will be useful and can be put away until you need it. If you play on a regular basis, a full poker table will be in order to meet your needs. Labels: cards, poker, poker-party, poker-practice, texas-holdem

Getting Ideas to Make Over Your Game Room
Whether you've suddenly acquired an extra room in your home from a kiddo that's grown up and gone to college or you just have a game room area you haven't done anything with; the most daunting part of making over a room to be a total fun room is just getting ideas. A great place to start looking for ideas is right here on your computer screen. It's convenient and you can do it anytime you like. Go to Google or your favorite search engine and go to "Image" then type in "game room" in quotes - it will narrow down your search and look at the images that come up. You can also use the search term "game room decor" if you so choose to narrow down your search even further. Also check out magazines. Again, you can do this search on your computer. Go to the websites of some of your favorite fashion and lifestyle magazines and you will find most have a search function. Use it and search using the parenthesis method above to narrow your results to actual games instead of articles about "Games Men Play". Consider elements for your game room such as : Do you want a bar? Do you want a foosball table? Do you want a full blown poker table or a simple table topper? Also consider the colors. Darker colors usually meld well into any game room decor. Darker colored table toppers or poker tables, black dart boards and dark, elegant draperies will give your room an air of class without making it boring or staid. Use these tips and get the game room you've always wanted. Start looking around now for inspiration! Fun Decor Ideas for Your Game Room
Ready to give your game room a new look for 2008, but you don't want to spend a ton of money and you don't have a lot of time? It's still very possible! First of all, get rid of the clutter. Adopt the attitude of "A place for everything and everything in its place" for your game room and you'll find the room automatically seems a lot larger. Then go through the items that are already out and determine if you really need them. A simple shelf or two on your walls is a great way to ensure that you have the items out that you want and yet they won't be cluttering up table tops and other areas. Then look towards your walls. A game room is for, well having fun and your wall decor should reflect just that sentiment. This is the one room in your home that kitschy, silly, light hearted and whimsical is the rule of the day. Get rid of your fine art prints on the walls and relegate them to other areas of your home where they will be more appreciated. Antique bar art, signs, posters either antique or modern in slick black frames are all economical as well as lending an air of fun to your room. A fun sign with a witty saying will set the tone for your game room. If you haven't already invested in a cabinet or armoire to stash away your television and/or stereo equipment it's a great idea and will keep the lines of your room sleek and clutter-free until you're ready to invite everyone over to watch a game on television or listen to tunes while you play the night away at a game of poker. Use these simple tips and rev up the style in your game room for 2008 and make it a room that is full of fun! As you are all gathered around the poker tables, you can even keep track of the time so that you can all stop and wish each other a happy New Year once the ball drops at midnight! World Series of Poker Legend Dies
This week, we had to say goodbye to David "Chip" Reese. You may not know the name immediately but you'd recognize him immediately if you saw him as a star who anchored one of the biggest cash games in the world and won three World Series of Poker bracelets. Reese passed away in his sleep and was only 56-years old and had been suffering from pneumonia symptoms for about a week. Considered one of the best poker players in the world, Reese had initially been a student at Dartmouth College and wound up in Las Vegas on a whim and found he had a talent for playing poker like none other and wound up staying and making poker his profession.
Despite winning three World Series bracelets over the last four decades, including a $1.8 million HORSE event in 2005 that combines five poker disciplines, Reese focused his attention on high-stakes cash games away from the limelight. Reese was part of a generation of players in the 1970s that challenged established greats like Brunson, Thomas "Amarillo Slim" Preston Jr. and Walter Clyde "Puggy" Pearson. Hold 'Em, Fold 'Em and Give 'Em Poker Gifts
The holidays are officially here and it's time to start seriously getting your holiday gifts together. One of the easiest people to buy for on your holiday list will be your favorite poker fanatic. One gift that will they will love and use for years to come is a new poker chip set. Retire that tired old set that you've all been playing with for years and get your poker pal a real casino set. Paulson is one of the most recognized names in poker and they have an outstanding line of chips. You can get a beautiful set of professional full clay casino quality poker chips to use at your poker games. This is the same type of chips that are used in professional casinos around the world. Many gaming regulations are asking for 2/1000" tolerance for the chip thickness which we follow. After a certain period of time thickness of chips may vary due to the composition of the chip. These chips were especially designed for and they are available only from this store. If you're wondering how the chips will stay in mint condition. All chips have a multi-colored edge spot design you see in casinos. These chips have an inlay that is sealed to the chip. No pealing or staining on these chips. It is a linen type finish which allows them to be cleaned with warm water and mild soap. This protection also makes nearly impossible for someone to take the logo off without ruining the chip. The tophat and cane icon is synonymous with Paulson quality and authenticity. Your chips will come in an aluminum case and will keep the chips protected until your gift recipient is ready to play their next game of poker. As an added extra, we are including two decks of cards and 5 dice in this set to round it out. Happy Holidays! Labels: cards, gift-ideas, poker, poker-party, poker-practice, texas-holdem

Accessorize Your Poker Space
If you enjoy having regular games of poker, you might want to make your space where you play a little more fun with some whimsical accessories. First of all, take a look at the walls around where you play, add some fun to your wall space by adding a few posters that will bring a chuckle out of your favorite group of poker buddies with a poster that reads, "Folding is for Quitters" or if you enjoy imbibing on a few adult beverages while you play the " What I really Learned in School" poster will crack everyone around the table up. Another upgrade you may want to make is to update your lighting in the area where you play poker. Instead of a boring, standard room lighting, go for something fun and poker themed to tie in the entire feel of your room. With just a few changes you can have a room that was just used for poker games feel like a true game room! Labels: card-shuffle, cards, poker, poker-party, poker-practice, texas-holdem

After the Turkey.....
Instead of everyone going into food coma after the traditional over-consumption of Thanksgiving Dinner, give everyone something to do. Adults will get a second wind if you get out your table top cover or pull out your poker table and set up a game of Texas Hold 'Em, Queens are Better, 5-Card Draw or other family poker game. Have your chips ready and a couple of new decks of cards so all your guests have to do is sit down and start having fun. For the kids, set up a table and give them a board game or two to play or a deck of cards so they can play war, slap jack or even imitate the adults playing poker. Other activities such as magazines geared towards their age groups, crayons and coloring books or video games will all keep the younger set occupied and having a great time. Thanksgiving is just around the corner now, take stock of your poker playing supplies and make sure that you have everything you need to do Thanksgiving a little different this holiday season. Who knows? This might be the new tradition in your family! Labels: card-shuffle, cards, gift-ideas, poker, poker-party, poker-practice, texas-holdem

Basics for Playing Texas Hold 'Em
Texas Hold 'Em is one of the main poker games played in many casinos and it's also the version of poker most played on the World Poker Tour and ESPN's World Series of Poker. There are only three basic parts to playing Texas Hold 'Em, The Shuffle, The Deal and The Blinds. In a home game, the dealer will shuffle a standard deck of 52 cards. In casinos the dealer won't be playing the game with you, there's a round disk known as the dealer button that gets moved clockwise from player to player with each hand. Whichever player has the button is the dealer for that hand. Traditionally, the game will start with the two players to the left of the dealer (or the button holder) putting a predetermined amount of money or poker chips into the pot before any cards are dealt, this ensures that there is something in the pot for every hand, including the beginning. This is called "posting the blinds." Most often referred to as the "first blind". The player to the left of the dealer puts up half the minimum bet, and the "second blind" puts up the full minimum bet. Then after putting up the bet, the cards are dealt around the table. Each Texas Hold 'Em player is dealt two cards, face down. These are known as the "hole cards." Now, the betting will begin. A round of betting takes place, beginning with the player to the left of the two who already posted the blinds. Players can call, raise, or fold when it's their turn to bet just like other poker games. You'll also hear the term, "Flop". After the first betting round, the dealer discards the top card of the deck. This is called burning the card and is done to ensure that no one accidentally saw the top card, and to help prevent cheating. The dealer then flips the next three cards face up on the table. These cards are called the "flop." Eventually, a there will be five community cards placed face up on the table. Players can use any combination of the community cards and their own two hole cards to form the best possible five-card Poker hand. After the flop, another round of betting takes place. Fourth Street is when the dealer burns another card and plays one more face up onto the table. This, the fourth community card, is called the "turn" or "Fourth Street." The player to the left of the dealer (the button) begins the third round of betting. Fifth Street is the final dealing. The dealer burns another card before placing the final face-up card on the table. This card is called the "river" or "Fifth Street." Players can now use any combination of seven cards, the five community cards and the two hole cards known only to them to form the strongest 5-card poker hand they can. After the final betting round, all players who remain in the game reveal their hands. The player who made the initial bet or the player who made the last raise shows their hand first. The player with the best hand wins, enjoy your Texas Hold 'Em! Labels: card-shuffle, cards, gift-ideas, poker, poker-party, poker-practice, texas-holdem

Halloween Poker Party!
While the kids are out trick or treating this Halloween, throw a poker party of your own! Start a tradition in your neighborhood and make your house the place to gather and play your favorite poker games. You won't need too much to throw a poker bash. Round up your poker playing buddies, have snacks on hand and you can you be as creative as you want and have pumpkin faced crackers with cheese on top and olives creating monster eyes for a fun effect and other Halloween themed snacks. You can go for the easy and just have crackers, cheese, nachos, meatballs on toothpicks for your guests to munch on while they enjoy the poker game. A card shuffler is a handy gadget to have on the table. It makes the shuffling of the cards completely random and eliminates any sticking cards and ups the "luck of the draw" factor in your card games. Make this Halloween a little different, instead of watching endless bad movies on television this Halloween, throw your own poker party and enjoy the night with your friends, you'll be starting a whole new way to celebrate Halloween! All I Want for Christmas
Don’t you wish there was some way to tell the people you know what kind or types of gifts that you really want for your birthday or Christmas? All without just coming right out and telling them? Well you could always write a letter to Santa and if that doesn’t work start dropping hints earlier next year. There are all sorts of ways to get the message across, perhaps you are at a casino night somewhere and you casually mention how much fun it could be to have your own Roulette Set. Or at the next poker game you can point out how quickly cards can become worn and how chips can get lost or damaged. Or the next time you are out with friends at a pub you can say something like I have always wanted a dartboard at home. Or pointing something out and saying that is a great idea for a gift. Or perhaps the next time you purchase a gift for someone and they have opened it, tell them they almost didn’t get it because you thought about keeping it for yourself. Ok, if it is a big purchase, perhaps furniture, etc. and you really need to talk your spouse into it, then you will probably need to enlist some help from everyone you know. Perhaps you will be able to bribe them into helping you by offering use of whatever it is you want. If all else fails just do what the kids do, open your eyes real wide and get that pitiful look going and ask “it followed me home, can I keep it?” Labels: blackjack, blackjack-practice, card-shuffle, cards, gift-ideas, jack-daniels, music, poker, poker-party, poker-practice, roulette, slot-machines, texas-holdem

Start Thinking Ahead - Holiday Poker Gift Ideas
Having great gifts to give on the holidays is a very comforting feeling, especially if you have to do some shopping for a poker fanatic on your list. Depending on the level of player that he or she may be, you have several different options when it comes to gift giving. There are terrific poker related choices that you can buy for those who are just starting out all the way up to those players who have been tossing the cards, chips and dice around for quite some time. Do you think that the purchase of a poker gift set for the holidays is the perfect way to go? You can always look into wonderful gift sets that are made up of a variety of brand new poker chips, a miniature version of some of the most popular casino games including roulette or Texas hold'em and more. Basically, all you need to do is keep your eye out for any hints or good indications on the kind of gift that he or she might be looking to receive! If you are still pretty unsure of the kinds of poker accessories that your player is in need of, you can always take the safer route of something that they can add to their home decor. Gifts for the Wedding Party They'll Love for Years to Come
Planning a wedding can be pretty hectic, but you may wonder why the heck some people seem to panic for no apparent reason. Not you, you just might be the only one in the entire wedding party that remains calm, cool and collected. That is until your future mother-in-law asks you what kind of gifts you had gotten for your groomsmen. You may be thinking gifts? What gifts, you thought that the happy couples were the only ones who received gifts at a wedding. Not wanting to lose the edge that you created by being the only sane person left you tell her not to worry that you have everything under control. Then later you will drive yourself crazy trying to figure out what gifts to get for them. They are your best pals and it should probably be something special, you are just not sure what. First and foremost, do not panic, that would only reinforce the future in-laws belief that she really could have done better. First you need to decide if you are going to get them all the same thing or if you will get something different for each one that may reflect their personalities. Either way, if they enjoy playing poker you may want to consider something from the Howard, The Professor of Poker, Lederer collection, perhaps a DVD on Texas Hold’em. Or, maybe a great new poker chip set or how about a set of rare Grateful Dead playing cards. The actual item is not as important as the fact that you took the time to do something special. Have a Special Gathering or Raise Money with Casino Night!
Have you ever been to a casino night? Sometimes they are used as a way to raise money for a charity or money for a school. They usually involve games like craps, roulette and poker. Sometimes they include things like a silent auction and door prizes. If you are in charge of an event that will be used in this way, or even if you know someone that might be interested in that kind of fund raiser, they can be a great deal of fun and the amount collected quite often exceeds expectations. It might even be a worthwhile project to suggest at the next PTA or club meeting. Many of the items needed to run this event can be rented or borrowed and some people may already have in their game room or home. If you are asked to help out it would be a good idea to ask around because you may be able to just borrow everything you need. If not, you may consider going ahead and outright purchasing some of the items that you will need and that way they will be readily available in case this turns into an annual event. Since poker tables can be expensive consider getting a few table tops or felt tops, they are just like the actual table look and feel of a casino at a fraction of the cost. And since the object is to raise money they can be a great way to go. If there are going to be “dealers” or “servers” perhaps everyone could wear card player caps or t-shirts. They are not that expensive and it can add a touch of realism to the night. Labels: blackjack, card-shuffle, cards, jack-daniels, poker, poker-party, roulette, slot-machines, texas-holdem

Authenticate Your Poker Experience
You've got the cards, the chips, and the smoke filled room. But you're missing one key part of this scene; the large ovular poker table. Instead you and your merry band of would be World Series of Poker stars are playing at your old broken down kitchen table. You know the one with the uneven leg and the hole in the center. Of course you have never given any real thought to purchasing a poker table. You're a pragmatic guy who makes the best of what you've got. Then you start to look around your make-shift poker room and see that little by little it's coming together. You have Dogs Playing Poker on the wall, a World Series of Poker directly opposite of it, a nice stereo playing your favorite station at a reasonable level and of course there's Poker Champ neon sign. So why not just break down and get that poker table? It will be a wise investment in the long run. Poker tables do a number of things. First of all they spread you and the other players out quite a bit more than a regular table would. This will help cut back on cheating, and there's always someone who tries to catch a gander at your cards. It's also going to effectively complete our poker room by becoming the center of attention. You can completely re-arrange everything in the room around your poker table. A finally there's the excitement of playing on a table just like the WSOP champions play on. You can't beat that. How to Learn To Play Poker - FAST
Poker is a really wonderful game. It's something you can do with your family or a group of friends. The great thing about it really is the social aspect of the game. But what if you don't know how to play? Or, maybe you know how to play but most of your friends and family don't. Those are both opportunities. How is that the case? Simple, if you or your family and friends don't know how to play the game then it gives you the opportunity to learn something new and bond with them over it. If it turns out to be the case that you know how and they don't well then you have an opportunity to educate them in the matter. The best way to learn to play poker isn't to spend hours on the internet reading rules and tips from the pros. Now that does and always will help, but the easiest way to learn is to pick up a copy of Poker for Dummies. This DVD is specifically designed to help novices learn the game. Like other DVDs and books in the for Dummies series it's really well done and easy to learn from. Chris Moneymaker, who won the 2003 WSOP, will teach you the fundamentals of poker and various other tips and strategies to win game after game.Bonding experiences are few and far between. Use this DVD not only to learn and improve your game, but to become closer to your loved ones as well through many fun nights around the poker table. Raise Money With Your Own Casino Night
It really goes without saying, when there is a casino night in the works, people tend to pull out their wallets in the hopes that they will end up winning their fair share of the pot. Because of this effect that the game of poker as well as other casino related events have on attendees, you should find that this will be the perfect way to raise money for any kind of cause that you may be looking to support. Perhaps you have a close friend or a relative that is in need of some sort of medical procedure and they could use some help to cover the finances. You might even find that there is a need to purchase something for the local school in your area or the kids in your neighborhood could use a bit of an upgrade to their playground. These, along with many others, are perfect reasons to have your very own casino night to try and help raise money. Gather up your supplies and see if your friends and neighbors happen to have any poker accessories that you can borrow as well. You are going to need a series of games, a couple of decks of cards and certainly some chips to get the festivities started. Such an event can be set up in your home if you happen to have the room or you can even try and rent out a hall in your local area or see if the school will let you use their gymnasium. Once you have the wheels set in motion, you will be on your way to a great casino night filled with fun and monies being raised for your chosen cause. The Cool History of Poker
You love poker and you play as often as you can, but did you ever wonder where the game came from? There's no definitive answer, although most historians point towards Persia (modern day Iraq) as the birthplace of this game that continues much as it started. The Persian card game, "As Nas" or just "Nas", that was very popular around the 1500's seems to be where modern poker was born. The difference was that Nas was played with twenty-five cards of five suits each. The game of Nas had many of the same nuances of the poker game Five Card Stud. There is also a similar game that was played with colored pebbles in China around 900 A.D. but most scholars subscribe to poker beginning with Nas as it was played with cards. Poker made it's entrance onto U.S. soil in New Orleans with a game called "poque" which was later mispronounced a "poker". The game of poque is nearly identicle to the game of five card draw. As people traveled, they took their favorite card game with them and as with all games, there were things added, games added and of course, people learned to be dishonest with it. Texas Hold 'Em is one of the most popular versions of poker being played in present day and if you aren't already having a regular game at your house, you need very little do so. Just a good poker table, or table top cover, cards and chips and you're ready to roll! Labels: cards, gift-ideas, poker, poker-party, poker-practice, texas-holdem

It Beats Just Waiting
If you are part of a weekly or monthly poker group there may be a time that you have more players than necessary for a game of poker but not enough to warrant another table. Normally you would set up some type of a rotation plan to be sure everyone gets to play. However, this can be a little boring for the people that are waiting to play so you may want to consider including some side games for them to help pass the time. Perhaps they could take an extra deck of cards and play a few hands of blackjack. If you have a dartboard maybe you could set up a game where two players compete for a seat at the poker table. Then after a designated amount of time, the player that is in last place at the table would give their seat up to the winner of the darts contest. It might also be fun to set up an area where the extra players can play craps; again maybe the winner would get a seat at the poker table. Alternatively, you might want to get a nice Backgammon Set, to help fight the boredom and quite possibly use the winner to gain entry to the poker table, or use the doubling cube to determine the next player. There are many ways to help keep everyone entertained while waiting for their turn at the poker table. It also helps them enjoy their natural competitiveness along the way. Planning the Perfect Poker Party
If you are planning a get-together to celebrate your new game room, or maybe you are hosting the next poker party. Either way there are some things that you may want to make sure are on your checklist. Naturally you want to have an area big enough for everyone to be comfortable. Alternatively, if space is limited you need to find ways to use all of the space available in the most efficient way. If you want to include a stereo in the room consider mounting the speakers on a wall in order to save space. A portable wet bar that can be moved out when needed and put away later is a great idea for a small room. If you are anticipating a large number of people and you only have one "official" poker table consider getting a few poker tabletop felt layouts to use. They are fairly inexpensive and can be used as often as needed. Or if you prefer, you can get a folding poker table complete with padded rails and cup holders. It seats up to ten people and folds away for easy storage. If you are a little skeptical about folding tables due to past experiences, these tables feature extra support bars that reach into the center of the table eliminating the sagging problem that is quite often found with a folding table. With a little advanced planning your next poker party will be the talk of the town. If not the town, at least your buddies and that may be even better. The World Series of Poker
Although the World Series of Poker tournament has come and gone this year, everyone is already making plans and gearing up for next year. You don't have to be a professional player to enjoy all that this organization has to offer, you just need a love for the game. If you are not one of the lucky few that get to play in this tournament or if you are not able to attend, why not throw a poker party instead. You can either plan a big bash during one or two of the days of next year's tournament, or have just one big on-going party throughout the series where you and your buddies can play a little poker while watching the World of Poker Series Tournament. Naturally, if you plan on hosting your own event you want to make sure you have done everything you can to make this a great experience for everyone because they are your buddies and you want them to feel comfortable. Help For the Game Room
Poker players and fans of all skill levels and ages love a great game room. Whether it is a room converted only during a weekly game or a room designated strictly for gaming there are ways of making it truly unique. Naturally, if it is a game room all the time you will have permanent fixtures and furnishings. For the purpose of this article let’s assume you have not yet been able to have a room designed solely for gaming. Whether due to space limitations or even marital harmony is not really important. So let's just get to a few ideas to make what you do have available a little better. Atmosphere plays a big part in game night, so you naturally want an area that is free from some distractions, but not all. If your group doesn’t mind having a ball game on during this time then a television that can be seen by all might be in order. If you normally have it on a stationary type stand consider getting a swivel stand. There are also some available that can be placed under the television temporarily and removed if you so desire. Perhaps you can add high shelf that it can be placed on if necessary. If the area you normally play in is not close to the kitchen and you want food and drink while playing, and who doesn’t, then consider adding a mini-fridge or portable bar. You may also want to consider a few extra accessories that can add to the game but can be removed if the need arises. You may consider some type of neon sign that can become sort of like a “mascot" to your game. Or even artwork, it does not necessarily have to be the velvet poker playing dogs' picture. The All In Poker Poster is a great choice with its cool poker terms, advice on bluffing and even a poker hall of fame portion. Game night is all about poker and fun so add a few things or change things up a bit to make the next one even better. Labels: gift-ideas, poker, poker-party, poker-practice, texas-holdem

He Who Has the Most Toys.....
You love poker. You love everything about poker. Not only do you love everything about it, you really love being the one with the best poker "stuff". Let's face it, its great having the most toys but it's not enough, you also have to have the best. For most of you, this also includes the way your game room is designed and decorated. When in the designing stages you need to consider the type of room you want. For example, if you enjoy all types of games and not just cards, you will need to consider how much room you have and the amount of space you want to designate for each type of game. If you want to include slots or pinball machines, you may consider having a corner area easily accessible to electrical outlets. If you plan to have a pool/ping pong table then you will need to make sure there is enough "elbow room" to be able to play comfortably. If you tend to enjoy card or table games, the type of table you get also has some necessary considerations. If it is strictly for poker or cards then obviously a table designed for this is the appropriate choice. If you enjoy other games as well, consider a table that has the traditional card game top as well as having an interchangeable one for board games, etc. Deciding on your necessary accessories such as cards and chips can be equally important in establishing your "best" status. Consider using ESPN "Official" poker supplies such as one of the ESPN Poker chip sets. Having these "official" accessories will boost your status all the way to the top. Women and Poker
In case you haven’t noticed more and more women are showing up on the poker scene. Some just to watch and others that love to play. If you have considered learning the game but have been a little nervous about asking for help or did not quite know where to begin there are some great tools available for you to check out. Keep in mind that your partners weekly poker game may not be the ideal way to learn poker. Normally this is a guys only thing and your participation may be met with a little resistance. While they do not behave exactly like a gathering of women might, they do consider this their time to be guys, tell a few off-color jokes, drink a little, belch a lot and maybe even complain about their wives or girlfriends. And while you may say of course they would be welcome to sit in on one of your get-togethers with the girls, think about it, would you really want them to know everything you talk about? So, in order to preserve the natural order (guy's night is guy's night) you may want to skip asking if you can sit in. Of course you can always ask your mate to teach you a few things when he is not actually playing. Or, consider getting a Poker DVD or software program. There are several to choose from and they can be as basic as you need as well as show you how to improve your skills. The best part is that you can view them by yourself or maybe you and your girlfriends can learn together. It doesn’t necessarily mean that you will be invited to join poker night but at least you will know what to do in case the opportunity ever arises and they need another player. Great Poker Apparel
Buying gifts can be a bit difficult at times if you don’t know the person very well or even if you do, but they are the type that has everything already. Maybe you do know that they are avid game players and as such something to related to their favorite games would be a good bet. If they are into many different types such as black jack, craps or poker, then a game table might be a good choice. Or even a portable tabletop or felt layout. Naturally accessories designed for the game are also good choices. Such as poker chips, dice cards, etc. As any player knows you can never have too many decks of cards or good poker chips. Or perhaps a whole game set-up would be appropriate for something like an all in one casino kit or even a roulette set-up. But if they truly do already have everything they need to complete their home game room, then its time to start looking at things they may want, but won’t buy for themselves, instead. You might consider some type of poker apparel, perhaps a new hat. One item that is always appreciated and centers around poker completely is the Card Player White Series of Poker T-Shirt. The back of the shirt lists all of the days, events and buy-ins of the World Series of Poker and the front has the Card Player logo in black and red. This is something that every poker player or fan would love to have and would wear with pride. Labels: cards, gift-ideas, poker, poker-party, poker-practice, texas-holdem

Gather 'Round the Bar

If it is going to be more of a family or game room atmosphere there are some bar stools available that just might be perfect for your purposes. The four aces theme is carried through with silk-screening on the comfortable 8" thick cushion featuring a choice of a black club, black spade, red diamond or a red heart. You can choose one or all four would be great to carry a whole card theme throughout the room. The seat height is 30", which is great for most bars. If you do not have a pass-through bar and would like pub or bar tables instead, these stools pair perfectly with the 42" pub tables that are available, many with matching themes. There are also other themes and designs available for the stools if you would prefer. The Texas Hold’em Bar stool and the Las Vegas Bar Stool are also available. If you are looking for something a little different, consider the Jack Daniels Label Bar Stool, which is also available with a backrest, for a very unique look. A Place for Your Favorite Toys
Finally, your wife has agreed that maybe a game room is not such a bad idea after all. And it only took 2 years for you to convince her how great it would be. Of course, now you will have to let her have it a couple nights a month for bridge, or whatever, with the girls. But hey, you can live with that right? Now its time for the decorating and you want to make sure it will be the envy of all your friends, so here are a few things you may want to consider. If you are converting an existing room or basement, you may want to include a few things such as good ventilation or perhaps ceiling fans to help with cigar or cigarette smoke. Naturally, you will want to include a big screen television to watch the game while playing cards. And just in case there are no interesting games on (though that is a rare occurrence); you might want to install a good stereo system. One additional item that is worth considering is insulation, possibly even a sound proofing type to avoid any possible disagreements with the spouse, just in case you and the guys get a little loud. If you have always felt that themes or schemes were not something real men considered you may want to rethink that. What could be better than a Jack Daniels theme for the room? Including a Jack Daniels Poker Table and chairs, a great Jack Daniels home bar and for the finishing touch consider the Jack Daniels Nostalgic Jukebox. When your pals see your room there is likely to be a lot of drooling and back-slapping. Sounds good, huh? Labels: cards, gift-ideas, jack-daniels, poker, poker-party, texas-holdem

Something to Talk About During Your Next Poker Game
You love the game of poker and you play as often as you can, but did you ever wonder where this fun game began? Many countries lay claim to having the original poker game but conventional wisdom points to Persia as the original origin of this fun card game. Originally it was called "Nas" and was the rage throughout the 1500's. The game of Nas was a little different. Instead of four suits as with the a modern card deck, Nas had fives suits of cards in the deck and twenty fives cards in each suit. The game of Nas was very similar to the still popular poker game of 5-Card Stud. China had a gambling game that was similar to Nas as early as the year 900 A.D.; however it was played with pebbles and never graduated to any form of a card game. America's original gambling center, New Orleans is where the game of poker was first made popular on United States soil. Originally called ‘Poque' and later translated to poker, it began to spread across the country and games were added as the game spread. The increasing popularity of all gambling games fueled the fast spread of Poker across the Western Frontier before the Civil War. Many dishonest gamblers ran con businesses, taking advantage of pioneers. An interesting side note is that anyone that was caught running a con game with poker, was forced to wear a large necklace of big dice and cards to identify them as persons who were dishonest gamblers. Presently, poker can be played both online and off, as well as in a myriad of video games. Texas Hold 'Em is wildly popular, however old favorites such as 5-Card Draw and Trips to Win are still among some of the favorite games played. Playing poker is fun and it is a great way to spend time with your family and friends, playing cards, tossing chips and some good natured ribbing. If you're been putting off learning poker or you just want to get back in the game, you only need chips, a table or poker table topper and a few decks of cards and you're ready to play! There's More to Poker Than Texas Hold'Em
Virtually everyone knows how to play Texas Hold'Em Poker these days, but how about giving your game a bit more variety and a unique flair by playing some other poker variations, that have been all but forgotten at poker nights across the country these days? One fun game is a variation on 7-card Stud, called Baseball. This is a great game for beginners, as it's fairly easy to play. Baseball is dealt like 7-Card Stud, with a few variations. In Baseball, all threes and nines are wild. If a player is dealt a four face up, they receive another hole card. Some play with even more variations, such as the "rain out" where if a Queen of Spades is dealt (exposed) the pot is canceled and split among everyone who is still in. If you're really set on Hold'Em, there are several variants besides just Texas Hold'Em you can play. Omaha is another popular Hold'Em game, though it's been overshadowed. Omaha is a great game for players of every skill level, and can help to even the playing field if you have players with mixed skill levels. In Omaha, you have nine cards to choose from. Each player is dealt four face down cards (hole cards). Then the Flop is three cards dealt face up on the table. The Turn, a fourth card, is dealt, then the river, a fifth card dealt to the table. The five cards on the table are community cards. When playing games such as these, an automatic shuffler for multiple decks is a great idea to keep the game interesting. Try the Automatic 2 Deck Shuffler and then a dealing shoe to help things move along smoothly. Labels: card-shuffle, cards, gift-ideas, poker, poker-party, poker-practice, texas-holdem

Organizing a Poker Night
Poker nights are fun and relaxing, a great way to kick back with some friends and have a good time. It's also a good way to regularly keep in touch with friends when life can sometimes be so busy that we forget to keep in touch. Even if you don't play for actual money, poker is always a fun way to pass the time. Decide first how many people will be invited. You will want to be certain that you have enough chips for everyone that will be attending. Good quality chips are the best way to go. They feel good in your hands, and will hold up to lots of use. It's usually customary to use a fresh deck of cards for each night as well. You don’t want to be dealing with any old decks that might be missing cards, or which might have bent or damaged cards. Next decide which drinks and snacks you will be providing. If your poker night will be a regular event, it is a good idea to rotate who brings what. If one person shells out the cash for beer one night, and another simply brings chips and dip, it wouldn't be fair to expect them to do the same every time you get together. There is of course, always they "BYOB" setup as well. Make sure that the rules of your house, such as rules regarding smoking and drinking, are clearly communicated before hand. Make sure to clear out a comfortable area for you and your guests to play. The ESPN 84x42 Texas Hold'Em Poker Padded Folding Table would be a great choice. This gives the game a fun professional feel, and it's comfortable with its padded edges. This table can accommodate up to 10 people. Texas Hold 'Em is Hot!
Texas Hold'em is far and away the most popular version of poker being played today. Texas Hold'em is the game of choice these days, whether it's at the casino, online, a home game or the popular bar tournaments. Texas Hold'em is a community card game where each player is dealt two cards. It is a traditional form of poker that uses a standard deck of 52 playing cards and regular poker hands (pair, full house, etc). Texas Hold'em is generally played with 2 to 10 players. Texas Hold'em is also considered a "community card" game, meaning that some cards are dealt face-up in the middle of the table and shared by all the players. Texas Hold'em is one of the most spread games among gamblers all over the world, who play it either for real money or for free. Texas Hold'em is played with standard 52-card deck and it does not use jokers or any other wild cards. It is a simple game to learn: You can begin playing five minutes after someone has explained the game to you. Texas Hold'em is said to "take a minute to learn, but a lifetime to master," which sums it up pretty well. Hold'em is an easy game to learn, but to become a great player takes a lot of practice and much patience. Hold'em poker is a deceptively simple game to learn but it takes study and concentration to master it. An interesting fact about Hold'em poker is that it was first played at the Golden Nugget Casino in Downtown Las Vegas in 1967. The Texas hold 'em pot is won either at the showdown by forming the best five card poker hand out of the seven cards available, or by betting to cause other players to fold and abandon their claim to the pot. Texas Hold'em involves a fair amount of skill in the betting and bluffing arena as well as the reading of other players. Texas Hold'em is the next great American past time, and is catching on like wildfire around the globe. Labels: texas-holdem
