Got Your Game Face?

What is the most essential part to great poker playing? You cannot let the other players know what is going on in your hand, otherwise you might not make it to the end of the game. You need to construct a strategy that is unique to you that no one else has devised. You need to know your own personality and how other people perceive you. But the one thing that ensures that you will go far in a poker game is the Game Face. That absent, blank look that lets everyone know that you mean business and that you are not there to let the other players know what kind of cards you are holding.

Not what are the types of tools poker players use to accommodate their Game Face? Well, some use sun glasses. Others use both sun glasses and hats. The Burgundy BetHold'em Baseball Cap will aid in your game face techniques.

As you grow as a poker player, use different things to help your gaming. Use this baseball cap to help.

Learning More About Blackjack

Blackjack is a very simple card game that is fun and easy to learn. Playing blackjack is easy as you need only a way to place your wagers, a deck of cards and a place for your discards. Many people have used blackjack as a fund raiser as part of a casino night to benefit their charity or special cause. It's so easy to learn, most people catch on to how to play before the first hand is even over.

All the you have to know to play a good game of blackjack is that the objective of the game of blackjack is to have a hand higher than the dealer but to also stay under 21. If your hand goes over 21 then you automatically lose that hand or "go bust". The game of blackjack is played with a standard deck of cards with jacks, queens, kings, and tens all being worth ten points. An ace can either be 11 points or 1 point, whichever number benefits you the most in the hand you use it in, once you choose the numerical amount for an ace in that hand, you can not change it if a "one" point card will suddenly benefit you more than the "eleven" point card you chose your ace originally to be.

To play you are dealt a card by the dealer. You can then ask the dealer for as many cards as you think you will need, one at a time. If you reach 21 with the first two cards dealt to you it is called a natural blackjack and you win that hand without any further cards being dealt. You can get a natural blackjack by either getting an ace and any face card or a ten.

Another thing to know about the game of blackjack, if you have the same number of points or more points than the dealer without going over 21 then you win that hand! See? Now you know why the game of blackjack has stayed so popular over the years.

Blackjack Made Easy!

If you're a frequent reader of this blog, poker poker poker may be all you think we write about; and yes we love poker but there are other games that are just as fun. Blackjack for example is a blast. If you have never played the game before and you're interested in learning - read on- it's easy!

One of the first terms a blackjack player should to know is "going bust". This means that your hand is over 21 and you automatically lose that round. Going bust is exactly what you do not want to do when you play the game.

If you say "surrender" or "I'm out" it means that you forfeit the hand because you are unhappy with the cards that you have been dealt on that particular hand. Certain casinos will return a minimum portion of your wager if you don't like the hand you've been dealt but many places will simply take your money and ask if you'd like another hand.

When you get dealt a good hand and you're feeling lucky about the next card to be dealt, tell the dealer you'd like to "Double Down". Doing so will double your original blackjack bet under the terms that you win with the next card dealt to you in this round. If you don't win, you lose.

Another good term to know is "Split Pairs". This means that you have been dealt two cards and they have the same face value. Such as two eights or two tens. You can split them up to give you two separate hands to play. This will increase your odds of making blackjack and winning that hand.

Knowing when to use the right terminology will help you look like a pro the next time you play blackjack. If you would like to host your own game in your own home, get a blackjack set and have a professional set up. Your friends will think you've been sneaking off to Vegas on a regular basis and learned to play blackjack like a pro!

Build Your Poker Confidence!

One of the worst things that you can do is turn down some of the invitations that you might receive for poker parties simply because you think that you are not good enough to place your bets with some of the other players. Keep in mind that no matter what your level of skill is in regards to poker, you are never going to get any better without a good deal of practice. The best thing to do when you feel as though your poker skills are lacking is to get in on some great games with a low buy-in and you will be well on your way to honing your skills.

If you do not always have the opportunities available to you to head off to poker games or tournaments, you can always look into doing a little bit of practicing online. There are plenty of terrific online poker sites where you can learn more about the games all from the comfort of your own home. Certainly, the best way to get into some of the best tactics is by being at an actual game, however playing online is a good second choice.

Another smart thing that you might want to look into is a little bit of reading material or using DVD's made to emulate the poker games that you are interested in. This way, when you are not going to be near the computer or attending any games, you can go ahead and read up on some of the strategies that many professionals use. Once you begin to practice, you are sure to see your poker self-esteem growing higher and higher!

Getting Ideas to Make Over Your Game Room

Whether you've suddenly acquired an extra room in your home from a kiddo that's grown up and gone to college or you just have a game room area you haven't done anything with; the most daunting part of making over a room to be a total fun room is just getting ideas.

A great place to start looking for ideas is right here on your computer screen. It's convenient and you can do it anytime you like. Go to Google or your favorite search engine and go to "Image" then type in "game room" in quotes - it will narrow down your search and look at the images that come up. You can also use the search term "game room decor" if you so choose to narrow down your search even further.

Also check out magazines. Again, you can do this search on your computer. Go to the websites of some of your favorite fashion and lifestyle magazines and you will find most have a search function. Use it and search using the parenthesis method above to narrow your results to actual games instead of articles about "Games Men Play".

Consider elements for your game room such as :

Do you want a bar?
Do you want a foosball table?
Do you want a full blown poker table or a simple table topper?

Also consider the colors. Darker colors usually meld well into any game room decor. Darker colored table toppers or poker tables, black dart boards and dark, elegant draperies will give your room an air of class without making it boring or staid.

Use these tips and get the game room you've always wanted. Start looking around now for inspiration!

Fun Decor Ideas for Your Game Room

Ready to give your game room a new look for 2008, but you don't want to spend a ton of money and you don't have a lot of time? It's still very possible!

First of all, get rid of the clutter. Adopt the attitude of "A place for everything and everything in its place" for your game room and you'll find the room automatically seems a lot larger. Then go through the items that are already out and determine if you really need them. A simple shelf or two on your walls is a great way to ensure that you have the items out that you want and yet they won't be cluttering up table tops and other areas.

Then look towards your walls. A game room is for, well having fun and your wall decor should reflect just that sentiment. This is the one room in your home that kitschy, silly, light hearted and whimsical is the rule of the day. Get rid of your fine art prints on the walls and relegate them to other areas of your home where they will be more appreciated. Antique bar art, signs, posters either antique or modern in slick black frames are all economical as well as lending an air of fun to your room. A fun sign with a witty saying will set the tone for your game room.

If you haven't already invested in a cabinet or armoire to stash away your television and/or stereo equipment it's a great idea and will keep the lines of your room sleek and clutter-free until you're ready to invite everyone over to watch a game on television or listen to tunes while you play the night away at a game of poker.

Use these simple tips and rev up the style in your game room for 2008 and make it a room that is full of fun!

You love poker, you love to play with your friends and you maybe a little bored with your poker table.

Consider trading in your boring old poker table for a Texas Hold' Em Poker Table Full Size Table that seats 10 players comfortably complete with cup holders. Unlike a lot of cup holders on casino style tables - these cup holders are vented and are extremely easy to keep clean. The sizea of this table is 83-inches by 44-inches however the legs fold flat and the table can easily be stored out of the way until you're ready to play.

This Texas Holdem Table has a full set of bumper pads around the table. The pads are covered with a high grade mildew resistant black vinyl. And there's nothing boring about the color of this poker table either. It comes in blue (shown) or burgundy. Either of which will look fabulous in your game room. The table top is padded to give the dealer and players the highest comfort level. Under the table top is a wood reinforced frame for added stability and strength.

If you're looking for a poker table that is a casino style and will enhance the look of your game room or you're just tired of looking at that boring old poker table, upgrade to a the fun look of a blue or burgundy table.

Last Minute Fun Gifts

The countdown to Christmas is here and you only have a few days left - however there's still time to get a great last minute gift for someone on your holiday gifting list.

Even the pros know that you can always use some tips on playing to increase your skill and chances of winning your next game. The World Series of Poker limited edition winners circle bracelet is also an outstanding, unique gift.

Another fun gift is a dart board. Darts is a very old game and is still played in homes, bars and restaurants around the world. The object of the game is very simple. Simply hold a pointed dart in your hand and aim for the board. Depending on the game you're playing, you may be aiming for specific numbers, particular colored squares or just the bullseye in the center of the board. If your gift recipient already has a dart board - a new set of darts will make a wonderful gift.

Have a chess lover on your holiday list? Jack Daniels as a very unique chess set that will ensure it will be come their new favorite set to play. The very detailed hand painted pieces are made from resin and look like miniature works of art. The King in this set is Mr. Jack Daniels himself. The Queen is the Belle of Lincoln decanter as Jack Daniel's Whiskey was first known. Corn is the grain used for producing Jack Daniels and is the Bishop on this chess board. The safe that Jack Daniels kicked in a moment of anger that actually lead to his early death serves as the Knight on the chess board and rick of hard sugar maple wood generally burned to create the charcoal for mellowing, acts as Rook. The pawns in the game are bottles of Jack Daniels.

And those are just a few ideas for you to use and get the perfect last minute gifts!

Give the Gift of Backgammon

Got a gamer on your holiday list but they aren't into the game of poker? Try a backgammon set for a gift that will please!

Backgammon is a challenging game that combines both skill and a little bit of luck as players sit across from each other with the object of moving their pieces to the other side. As the pieces are moved to the other side of the board - numbers one through six are assigned to the final row and as the corresponding number is rolled, the backgammon pieces are removed from the board. The winner is the player that can remove all their pieces from the backgammon board.

Backgammon is a wonderful impromptu game that is easy for anyone to learn, kids love the game and adults are always glad to play. A wonderful gift idea would be to combine this fun backgammon board with the gift of a small table to play on. Some small console tables will fold up until needed and others will have a single drawer that will keep the backgammon game stashed out of the way until it's time to be used.

If you've been racking your brain trying to come up with a great gift for a person that loves games, make it backgammon this year!

Hold 'Em, Fold 'Em and Give 'Em Poker Gifts

The holidays are officially here and it's time to start seriously getting your holiday gifts together. One of the easiest people to buy for on your holiday list will be your favorite poker fanatic. One gift that will they will love and use for years to come is a new poker chip set. Retire that tired old set that you've all been playing with for years and get your poker pal a real casino set.

Paulson is one of the most recognized names in poker and they have an outstanding line of chips. You can get a beautiful set of professional full clay casino quality poker chips to use at your poker games. This is the same type of chips that are used in professional casinos around the world.

Many gaming regulations are asking for 2/1000" tolerance for the chip thickness which we follow. After a certain period of time thickness of chips may vary due to the composition of the chip. These chips were especially designed for and they are available only from this store.

If you're wondering how the chips will stay in mint condition. All chips have a multi-colored edge spot design you see in casinos. These chips have an inlay that is sealed to the chip. No pealing or staining on these chips. It is a linen type finish which allows them to be cleaned with warm water and mild soap. This protection also makes nearly impossible for someone to take the logo off without ruining the chip. The tophat and cane icon is synonymous with Paulson quality and authenticity.

Your chips will come in an aluminum case and will keep the chips protected until your gift recipient is ready to play their next game of poker. As an added extra, we are including two decks of cards and 5 dice in this set to round it out. Happy Holidays!

Think Roulette!

As you know, a roulette wheel is a staple in even the smallest of casinos. Roulette could possibly be called one of the most popular games to play among people who love games of chance and a good number of people own their own roulette wheels to enjoy the fun game of Roulette. Like Blackjack, Roulette is easy to play and easy to learn.

Were you ever curious about where this game originated? Here are some fun facts to impress your buddies next time you get together for a night around the wheel.

One unchallenged fact is where the name of the game originated from. The word itself comes from the French word that means "small wheel". The way it acquired that name is still up for furious debate; the legend to be believed about roulette comes with a man named Francois Blanc. There are early tales that tell he made a bargain with the devil so that he could acquire all of the workings and secrets of Roulette. This story more than likely generated because all of the numbers on the roulette wheel total 666 when they are added together. However, history will tell that the game of Roulette was originally concocted by a man from France named Blaise Pascal. Pascal, was a mathematician who lived in 17th century Franch and was inspired to put the game of roulette together because of his interest in both numbers and perpetual motion devices.

No matter how the game came to be, it's fun and easy and millions upon millions of people have played and continue to play this enjoyable game of chance. If you already have a game table, consider adding your own Roulette wheel and inviting your friends over for a fun night of Roulette.

Learn the Inside Secrets for Winning at Blackjack

Blackjack originated in France as early as the seventeenth century and was originally called “vingt-et-un” which translates into English as 21. Blackjack has also been called 21, pontoon, and California aces. In the original French version of the game a player could win by drawing a jack of spades followed by an ace of spades. This is how the term blackjack was created to describe this card game.

Blackjack came to the United Sates following the French revolution and quickly became a very popular game in casinos. Players quickly realized that through gambling they could play the odds and manipulate blackjack hands. In the early 1900's gambling was outlawed in the states and had to go underground. At this time the game became associated with organized crime.

Blackjack is easy to learn and seems deceptively simple. That's where knowing the inside tricks for winning this game will come in handy. Learn what your casino dealer knows about Blackjack and learn to bet smart. John Patrick's Play Like The Pros: Learn To Win At Blackjack DVD is a great way to pick up those tips and learn to be a winner at one of your favorite casino games.

After the Turkey.....

Instead of everyone going into food coma after the traditional over-consumption of Thanksgiving Dinner, give everyone something to do.

Adults will get a second wind if you get out your table top cover or pull out your poker table and set up a game of Texas Hold 'Em, Queens are Better, 5-Card Draw or other family poker game. Have your chips ready and a couple of new decks of cards so all your guests have to do is sit down and start having fun.

For the kids, set up a table and give them a board game or two to play or a deck of cards so they can play war, slap jack or even imitate the adults playing poker. Other activities such as magazines geared towards their age groups, crayons and coloring books or video games will all keep the younger set occupied and having a great time.

Thanksgiving is just around the corner now, take stock of your poker playing supplies and make sure that you have everything you need to do Thanksgiving a little different this holiday season.
Who knows? This might be the new tradition in your family!

Basics for Playing Texas Hold 'Em

Texas Hold 'Em is one of the main poker games played in many casinos and it's also the version of poker most played on the World Poker Tour and ESPN's World Series of Poker.

There are only three basic parts to playing Texas Hold 'Em, The Shuffle, The Deal and The Blinds. In a home game, the dealer will shuffle a standard deck of 52 cards. In casinos the dealer won't be playing the game with you, there's a round disk known as the dealer button that gets moved clockwise from player to player with each hand. Whichever player has the button is the dealer for that hand.

Traditionally, the game will start with the two players to the left of the dealer (or the button holder) putting a predetermined amount of money or poker chips into the pot before any cards are dealt, this ensures that there is something in the pot for every hand, including the beginning.

This is called "posting the blinds." Most often referred to as the "first blind". The player to the left of the dealer puts up half the minimum bet, and the "second blind" puts up the full minimum bet. Then after putting up the bet, the cards are dealt around the table. Each Texas Hold 'Em player is dealt two cards, face down. These are known as the "hole cards."

Now, the betting will begin. A round of betting takes place, beginning with the player to the left of the two who already posted the blinds. Players can call, raise, or fold when it's their turn to bet just like other poker games.

You'll also hear the term, "Flop". After the first betting round, the dealer discards the top card of the deck. This is called burning the card and is done to ensure that no one accidentally saw the top card, and to help prevent cheating. The dealer then flips the next three cards face up on the table. These cards are called the "flop."

Eventually, a there will be five community cards placed face up on the table. Players can use any combination of the community cards and their own two hole cards to form the best possible five-card Poker hand. After the flop, another round of betting takes place.

Fourth Street is when the dealer burns another card and plays one more face up onto the table. This, the fourth community card, is called the "turn" or "Fourth Street."
The player to the left of the dealer (the button) begins the third round of betting.

Fifth Street is the final dealing. The dealer burns another card before placing the final face-up card on the table. This card is called the "river" or "Fifth Street."
Players can now use any combination of seven cards, the five community cards and the two hole cards known only to them to form the strongest 5-card poker hand they can.
After the final betting round, all players who remain in the game reveal their hands. The player who made the initial bet or the player who made the last raise shows their hand first.

The player with the best hand wins, enjoy your Texas Hold 'Em!

You won't need too much to throw a poker bash. Round up your poker playing buddies, have snacks on hand and you can you be as creative as you want and have pumpkin faced crackers with cheese on top and olives creating monster eyes for a fun effect and other Halloween themed snacks. You can go for the easy and just have crackers, cheese, nachos, meatballs on toothpicks for your guests to munch on while they enjoy the poker game.

A card shuffler is a handy gadget to have on the table. It makes the shuffling of the cards completely random and eliminates any sticking cards and ups the "luck of the draw" factor in your card games.

Make this Halloween a little different, instead of watching endless bad movies on television this Halloween, throw your own poker party and enjoy the night with your friends, you'll be starting a whole new way to celebrate Halloween!

All I Want for Christmas

Don’t you wish there was some way to tell the people you know what kind or types of gifts that you really want for your birthday or Christmas? All without just coming right out and telling them? Well you could always write a letter to Santa and if that doesn’t work start dropping hints earlier next year.

There are all sorts of ways to get the message across, perhaps you are at a casino night somewhere and you casually mention how much fun it could be to have your own Roulette Set. Or at the next poker game you can point out how quickly cards can become worn and how chips can get lost or damaged.

Or the next time you are out with friends at a pub you can say something like I have always wanted a dartboard at home. Or pointing something out and saying that is a great idea for a gift. Or perhaps the next time you purchase a gift for someone and they have opened it, tell them they almost didn’t get it because you thought about keeping it for yourself.

Ok, if it is a big purchase, perhaps furniture, etc. and you really need to talk your spouse into it, then you will probably need to enlist some help from everyone you know. Perhaps you will be able to bribe them into helping you by offering use of whatever it is you want.

If all else fails just do what the kids do, open your eyes real wide and get that pitiful look going and ask “it followed me home, can I keep it?”

Tis’ the Season

As a poker fan you have probably already filled out your wish list and sent it to Santa. Not only is this a good idea for you, but it is a good idea that you can use yourself when trying to think of holiday gifts.

Poker and game supplies are perfect gifts for your poker club buddies and even for your father-in-law. Choosing something like this shows that you really know the person and in doing so have found that perfect something that they will really enjoy.

It can be something as simple as a pub lamp for their game room or a new poker chip set. Yet it can also be as dramatic as a Las Vegas Skill stop slot machine or a Jack Daniels Jukebox. It is not so much the size or expense of a gift as it is that you took the time to find something they didn’t already have and knew they would enjoy. It is even easier to come up with a gift idea if you stop to consider what you would like to have and then incorporate their personalities and of course make sure they don’t already have it.

For a little extra “stocking stuffer” consider getting some type of poker apparel such as a card player t-shirt or baseball cap or something similar.

One added advantage of this type of gift is that maybe they will think of something like this for you next year.

New Season, New Games

If there is any time that you should check out various poker games with your friends or playing buddies, there is no better time than a change in seasons. The transition from summer into fall is an even better than most because you have a chill in the air and you are beginning to look for more things that you can do indoors. Instead of rehashing the same old poker style over and over again, go ahead and try out something new with your regular playing buddies.

Now, don't think that you have to be a poker expert to get in on some of the hottest games going today. Even if you are a beginner, there is a great DVD called Poker For Dummies that will give you all of the inside information on learning how to play from the very minute you pick up a card. Whether you are looking to learn how to play like some of the pros or you are simply looking to cash in with your friends from time to time, this is a great asset to have in your collection.

All depending on the types of poker hands you are looking to play, there are great instructional DVDs that will give you all of the inside information that you need as well as some of the simple basics to the game. No longer will you have to sit around wishing that you were playing something different and you and your buddies can put a little bit of life back into your regular poker parties.

Start Thinking Ahead - Holiday Poker Gift Ideas

Having great gifts to give on the holidays is a very comforting feeling, especially if you have to do some shopping for a poker fanatic on your list. Depending on the level of player that he or she may be, you have several different options when it comes to gift giving. There are terrific poker related choices that you can buy for those who are just starting out all the way up to those players who have been tossing the cards, chips and dice around for quite some time.

Do you think that the purchase of a poker gift set for the holidays is the perfect way to go? You can always look into wonderful gift sets that are made up of a variety of brand new poker chips, a miniature version of some of the most popular casino games including roulette or Texas hold'em and more. Basically, all you need to do is keep your eye out for any hints or good indications on the kind of gift that he or she might be looking to receive!

If you are still pretty unsure of the kinds of poker accessories that your player is in need of, you can always take the safer route of something that they can add to their home decor. A great set of the ESPN Poker Club coasters would make a fine addition to any bar set up or coffee table. Complete with the colors of the famous poker chip, these coasters will make a perfect addition to their next poker game or party!

Gifts for the Wedding Party They'll Love for Years to Come

Planning a wedding can be pretty hectic, but you may wonder why the heck some people seem to panic for no apparent reason. Not you, you just might be the only one in the entire wedding party that remains calm, cool and collected. That is until your future mother-in-law asks you what kind of gifts you had gotten for your groomsmen.

You may be thinking gifts? What gifts, you thought that the happy couples were the only ones who received gifts at a wedding. Not wanting to lose the edge that you created by being the only sane person left you tell her not to worry that you have everything under control. Then later you will drive yourself crazy trying to figure out what gifts to get for them. They are your best pals and it should probably be something special, you are just not sure what.

First and foremost, do not panic, that would only reinforce the future in-laws belief that she really could have done better. First you need to decide if you are going to get them all the same thing or if you will get something different for each one that may reflect their personalities.

Either way, if they enjoy playing poker you may want to consider something from the Howard, The Professor of Poker, Lederer collection, perhaps a DVD on Texas Hold’em. Or, maybe a great new poker chip set or how about a set of rare Grateful Dead playing cards. The actual item is not as important as the fact that you took the time to do something special.

Authenticate Your Poker Experience

You've got the cards, the chips, and the smoke filled room. But you're missing one key part of this scene; the large ovular poker table. Instead you and your merry band of would be World Series of Poker stars are playing at your old broken down kitchen table. You know the one with the uneven leg and the hole in the center.

Of course you have never given any real thought to purchasing a poker table. You're a pragmatic guy who makes the best of what you've got. Then you start to look around your make-shift poker room and see that little by little it's coming together. You have Dogs Playing Poker on the wall, a World Series of Poker directly opposite of it, a nice stereo playing your favorite station at a reasonable level and of course there's Poker Champ neon sign.

So why not just break down and get that poker table? It will be a wise investment in the long run. Poker tables do a number of things. First of all they spread you and the other players out quite a bit more than a regular table would. This will help cut back on cheating, and there's always someone who tries to catch a gander at your cards.

It's also going to effectively complete our poker room by becoming the center of attention. You can completely re-arrange everything in the room around your poker table. A finally there's the excitement of playing on a table just like the WSOP champions play on. You can't beat that.

How to Learn To Play Poker - FAST

Poker is a really wonderful game. It's something you can do with your family or a group of friends. The great thing about it really is the social aspect of the game.

But what if you don't know how to play? Or, maybe you know how to play but most of your friends and family don't. Those are both opportunities. How is that the case? Simple, if you or your family and friends don't know how to play the game then it gives you the opportunity to learn something new and bond with them over it. If it turns out to be the case that you know how and they don't well then you have an opportunity to educate them in the matter.

The best way to learn to play poker isn't to spend hours on the internet reading rules and tips from the pros. Now that does and always will help, but the easiest way to learn is to pick up a copy of Poker for Dummies. This DVD is specifically designed to help novices learn the game.

Like other DVDs and books in the for Dummies series it's really well done and easy to learn from. Chris Moneymaker, who won the 2003 WSOP, will teach you the fundamentals of poker and various other tips and strategies to win game after game.Bonding experiences are few and far between. Use this DVD not only to learn and improve your game, but to become closer to your loved ones as well through many fun nights around the poker table.

Time For Ladies' Night

Sometimes, there is just nothing like kicking back with some of your lady friends so you can all enjoy each other's company. However, when you are poker fans, why not take your visits to a completely new level by making it ladies' night with a weekly or monthly poker game? Nobody ever said that these kinds of gatherings were for guys only, so get on the phone or talk to your female friends at the playground or the local gym to see if they want in on a regular poker evening.

Maybe you have boyfriends or husbands who are already into playing poker. If so, then why not work on sharpening your playing skills so you can set up a friendly poker game of men against women? All you need is a good bit of practice and the will to beat the guys at what they think is their territory!

In order to get the best out of your scheduled poker games for ladies' night, you want to make sure that you have great accessories that you can play with. This doesn't meant that you have to go out and purchase the most expensive game table around. All you need are good quality cards, such as Full Contact Poker Playing Cards and you will be ready to go. Before you know it, all of the ladies in your poker group will be on their way to showing the guys just how the game of poker should be played!

The Cool History of Poker

You love poker and you play as often as you can, but did you ever wonder where the game came from?

There's no definitive answer, although most historians point towards Persia (modern day Iraq) as the birthplace of this game that continues much as it started. The Persian card game, "As Nas" or just "Nas", that was very popular around the 1500's seems to be where modern poker was born. The difference was that Nas was played with twenty-five cards of five suits each. The game of Nas had many of the same nuances of the poker game Five Card Stud. There is also a similar game that was played with colored pebbles in China around 900 A.D. but most scholars subscribe to poker beginning with Nas as it was played with cards.

Poker made it's entrance onto U.S. soil in New Orleans with a game called "poque" which was later mispronounced a "poker". The game of poque is nearly identicle to the game of five card draw. As people traveled, they took their favorite card game with them and as with all games, there were things added, games added and of course, people learned to be dishonest with it.

Texas Hold 'Em is one of the most popular versions of poker being played in present day and if you aren't already having a regular game at your house, you need very little do so. Just a good poker table, or table top cover, cards and chips and you're ready to roll!

It Beats Just Waiting

If you are part of a weekly or monthly poker group there may be a time that you have more players than necessary for a game of poker but not enough to warrant another table. Normally you would set up some type of a rotation plan to be sure everyone gets to play. However, this can be a little boring for the people that are waiting to play so you may want to consider including some side games for them to help pass the time.

Perhaps they could take an extra deck of cards and play a few hands of blackjack. If you have a dartboard maybe you could set up a game where two players compete for a seat at the poker table. Then after a designated amount of time, the player that is in last place at the table would give their seat up to the winner of the darts contest.

It might also be fun to set up an area where the extra players can play craps; again maybe the winner would get a seat at the poker table. Alternatively, you might want to get a nice Backgammon Set, to help fight the boredom and quite possibly use the winner to gain entry to the poker table, or use the doubling cube to determine the next player. There are many ways to help keep everyone entertained while waiting for their turn at the poker table. It also helps them enjoy their natural competitiveness along the way.

Planning the Perfect Poker Party

If you are planning a get-together to celebrate your new game room, or maybe you are hosting the next poker party. Either way there are some things that you may want to make sure are on your checklist.

Naturally you want to have an area big enough for everyone to be comfortable. Alternatively, if space is limited you need to find ways to use all of the space available in the most efficient way. If you want to include a stereo in the room consider mounting the speakers on a wall in order to save space. A portable wet bar that can be moved out when needed and put away later is a great idea for a small room.

If you are anticipating a large number of people and you only have one "official" poker table consider getting a few poker tabletop felt layouts to use. They are fairly inexpensive and can be used as often as needed. Or if you prefer, you can get a folding poker table complete with padded rails and cup holders. It seats up to ten people and folds away for easy storage. If you are a little skeptical about folding tables due to past experiences, these tables feature extra support bars that reach into the center of the table eliminating the sagging problem that is quite often found with a folding table.

With a little advanced planning your next poker party will be the talk of the town. If not the town, at least your buddies and that may be even better.

The Ultimate Cool Gift

Okay, yes it is still summer and yes it's early to be thinking ahead to the upcoming holiday season - but if you have one of those super hard to buy for people, you know you can't wait until the last minute to do your holiday shopping to start looking for that "perfect" gift.

If you want to really "Wow" your special person, consider giving them something they can really use and additionally something they will use all year around. A bar is a great way to give someone extra storage as well as a great place to entertain. It comes in either a traditional mahogany or a beautiful dark cherry finish to match any decor style and it's is handcrafted from Eastern Maple, which is a strong bark that will gives years upon years of sturdy service without showing wear.

The backside of the bar is open and it's the perfect way to make use of a corner space or other area in a game room where a traditional bar just won't fit. The dimensions of this piece are 41"H x 70"W x 33.5"D.

So put this little secret away and when you're racking your brain looking for a perfect gift, remember this fun Jack Daniel's Casino Bar.

Basement Retro?

Remember basements? Remember all the great shows that you and your buddies watched? Being able to play the music a little louder in the basement before your parents yelled out the obligatory "Turn that down". They were good times, weren't they? Missing those times a little? Go retro.

Yes, retro, think about it, some of your best times were playing around in the basement with your friends. It was "your" space and normally you were pretty much left alone by your parents as long as it didn't get too rowdy. Don't have a basement? That's ok; any space will do the trick. Of course, if you have a whole room available you could always get some really cool shag carpet. Ok, well, maybe not, but with a little imagination you can once again have "your" space.

If the space is limited and there is no room for a couch, and you just don't think you can still handle sitting in a bean bag chair consider something along the lines of a pub table. They are small and usually stools are a great fit for the seating. Also, think about adding a neon clock or billiard light to bring back that feel of yesteryear. Another great item to help complete the look is a dartboard. There are many styles available, some built into cabinets allowing you to close the doors until you are ready to play. However, since you have gotten older and your arm is not quite what it used to be, it is probably not a good idea to see if you can make your best friend blink by throwing darts in the wall around him like you did back in the day of your parent's basement.

Help For the Game Room

Poker players and fans of all skill levels and ages love a great game room. Whether it is a room converted only during a weekly game or a room designated strictly for gaming there are ways of making it truly unique.

Naturally, if it is a game room all the time you will have permanent fixtures and furnishings. For the purpose of this article let’s assume you have not yet been able to have a room designed solely for gaming. Whether due to space limitations or even marital harmony is not really important. So let's just get to a few ideas to make what you do have available a little better.

Atmosphere plays a big part in game night, so you naturally want an area that is free from some distractions, but not all. If your group doesn’t mind having a ball game on during this time then a television that can be seen by all might be in order. If you normally have it on a stationary type stand consider getting a swivel stand. There are also some available that can be placed under the television temporarily and removed if you so desire. Perhaps you can add high shelf that it can be placed on if necessary. If the area you normally play in is not close to the kitchen and you want food and drink while playing, and who doesn’t, then consider adding a mini-fridge or portable bar.

You may also want to consider a few extra accessories that can add to the game but can be removed if the need arises. You may consider some type of neon sign that can become sort of like a “mascot" to your game. Or even artwork, it does not necessarily have to be the velvet poker playing dogs' picture. The All In Poker Poster is a great choice with its cool poker terms, advice on bluffing and even a poker hall of fame portion. Game night is all about poker and fun so add a few things or change things up a bit to make the next one even better.

He Who Has the Most Toys.....

You love poker. You love everything about poker. Not only do you love everything about it, you really love being the one with the best poker "stuff".

Let's face it, its great having the most toys but it's not enough, you also have to have the best. For most of you, this also includes the way your game room is designed and decorated. When in the designing stages you need to consider the type of room you want. For example, if you enjoy all types of games and not just cards, you will need to consider how much room you have and the amount of space you want to designate for each type of game. If you want to include slots or pinball machines, you may consider having a corner area easily accessible to electrical outlets. If you plan to have a pool/ping pong table then you will need to make sure there is enough "elbow room" to be able to play comfortably.

If you tend to enjoy card or table games, the type of table you get also has some necessary considerations. If it is strictly for poker or cards then obviously a table designed for this is the appropriate choice. If you enjoy other games as well, consider a table that has the traditional card game top as well as having an interchangeable one for board games, etc.

Deciding on your necessary accessories such as cards and chips can be equally important in establishing your "best" status. Consider using ESPN "Official" poker supplies such as one of the ESPN Poker chip sets. Having these "official" accessories will boost your status all the way to the top.

Women and Poker

In case you haven’t noticed more and more women are showing up on the poker scene. Some just to watch and others that love to play. If you have considered learning the game but have been a little nervous about asking for help or did not quite know where to begin there are some great tools available for you to check out.

Keep in mind that your partners weekly poker game may not be the ideal way to learn poker. Normally this is a guys only thing and your participation may be met with a little resistance. While they do not behave exactly like a gathering of women might, they do consider this their time to be guys, tell a few off-color jokes, drink a little, belch a lot and maybe even complain about their wives or girlfriends. And while you may say of course they would be welcome to sit in on one of your get-togethers with the girls, think about it, would you really want them to know everything you talk about?

So, in order to preserve the natural order (guy's night is guy's night) you may want to skip asking if you can sit in. Of course you can always ask your mate to teach you a few things when he is not actually playing. Or, consider getting a Poker DVD or software program. There are several to choose from and they can be as basic as you need as well as show you how to improve your skills. The best part is that you can view them by yourself or maybe you and your girlfriends can learn together. It doesn’t necessarily mean that you will be invited to join poker night but at least you will know what to do in case the opportunity ever arises and they need another player.

Great Poker Apparel

Buying gifts can be a bit difficult at times if you don’t know the person very well or even if you do, but they are the type that has everything already. Maybe you do know that they are avid game players and as such something to related to their favorite games would be a good bet.

If they are into many different types such as black jack, craps or poker, then a game table might be a good choice. Or even a portable tabletop or felt layout. Naturally accessories designed for the game are also good choices. Such as poker chips, dice cards, etc. As any player knows you can never have too many decks of cards or good poker chips.

Or perhaps a whole game set-up would be appropriate for something like an all in one casino kit or even a roulette set-up. But if they truly do already have everything they need to complete their home game room, then its time to start looking at things they may want, but won’t buy for themselves, instead.

You might consider some type of poker apparel, perhaps a new hat. One item that is always appreciated and centers around poker completely is the Card Player White Series of Poker T-Shirt. The back of the shirt lists all of the days, events and buy-ins of the World Series of Poker and the front has the Card Player logo in black and red. This is something that every poker player or fan would love to have and would wear with pride.

Gather 'Round the Bar

If you have a family room, game room or den with a pass through bar it may be a little difficult trying to decide how the seating will work. If it is going to be more of a family or game room atmosphere there are some bar stools available that just might be perfect for your purposes.

If it is going to be a game room type theme, consider the Four Aces Bar Stools. Each one is a chrome plated tubular steel double rung bar stool made from high quality material. The four aces theme is carried through with silk-screening on the comfortable 8" thick cushion featuring a choice of a black club, black spade, red diamond or a red heart. You can choose one or all four would be great to carry a whole card theme throughout the room. The seat height is 30", which is great for most bars.

If you do not have a pass-through bar and would like pub or bar tables instead, these stools pair perfectly with the 42" pub tables that are available, many with matching themes. There are also other themes and designs available for the stools if you would prefer. The Texas Hold’em Bar stool and the Las Vegas Bar Stool are also available. If you are looking for something a little different, consider the Jack Daniels Label Bar Stool, which is also available with a backrest, for a very unique look.

Whatever type you decide on, you can be sure it will be a fun theme that everyone will comment on.

Slot Machine Mania

Have you recently added a game room to your home or perhaps you are redecorating a bar? If so, there are bound to be many things that you have had to consider in order for it to be completed.

Naturally, you have to consider the type of furnishings you would like to have and make sure everything will come together exactly how you would like it to be. Is it a roomy addition? Is there a place for pool tables or maybe just poker game tables? You may want to consider an area for darts or even shuffleboard, if it is feasible.

Maybe you will be including a refreshment center, with a soda fountain, wet bar or even a popcorn trolley. All of these are very popular and enjoyable.

If you have the room available and are partial to a casino type atmosphere, you may want to check out the different slot machines available. This will give your addition the look and feel of a professional game room and provide hours of fun.

The Pachislo Skill Stop Slot Machines are great ones to consider. It can be the Skill Stop or Push-n-Play model. The elite series comes with the New Terminator or Tomb Raider. They have a full color LCD screen that displays incredible graphics during the bonus round. As well as superb sound coming from powerful stereo speakers on either side of the screen.

Of course, there is a possible downside to owning one of these machines, you may never get to enjoy it yourself and you just may have a difficult time getting your friends to go home.

A Place for Your Favorite Toys

Finally, your wife has agreed that maybe a game room is not such a bad idea after all. And it only took 2 years for you to convince her how great it would be. Of course, now you will have to let her have it a couple nights a month for bridge, or whatever, with the girls. But hey, you can live with that right?

Now its time for the decorating and you want to make sure it will be the envy of all your friends, so here are a few things you may want to consider. If you are converting an existing room or basement, you may want to include a few things such as good ventilation or perhaps ceiling fans to help with cigar or cigarette smoke. Naturally, you will want to include a big screen television to watch the game while playing cards. And just in case there are no interesting games on (though that is a rare occurrence); you might want to install a good stereo system. One additional item that is worth considering is insulation, possibly even a sound proofing type to avoid any possible disagreements with the spouse, just in case you and the guys get a little loud.

If you have always felt that themes or schemes were not something real men considered you may want to rethink that. What could be better than a Jack Daniels theme for the room? Including a Jack Daniels Poker Table and chairs, a great Jack Daniels home bar and for the finishing touch consider the Jack Daniels Nostalgic Jukebox. When your pals see your room there is likely to be a lot of drooling and back-slapping. Sounds good, huh?

Something to Talk About During Your Next Poker Game

You love the game of poker and you play as often as you can, but did you ever wonder where this fun game began? Many countries lay claim to having the original poker game but conventional wisdom points to Persia as the original origin of this fun card game. Originally it was called "Nas" and was the rage throughout the 1500's. The game of Nas was a little different. Instead of four suits as with the a modern card deck, Nas had fives suits of cards in the deck and twenty fives cards in each suit. The game of Nas was very similar to the still popular poker game of 5-Card Stud. China had a gambling game that was similar to Nas as early as the year 900 A.D.; however it was played with pebbles and never graduated to any form of a card game.

America's original gambling center, New Orleans is where the game of poker was first made popular on United States soil. Originally called ‘Poque' and later translated to poker, it began to spread across the country and games were added as the game spread.

The increasing popularity of all gambling games fueled the fast spread of Poker across the Western Frontier before the Civil War. Many dishonest gamblers ran con businesses, taking advantage of pioneers. An interesting side note is that anyone that was caught running a con game with poker, was forced to wear a large necklace of big dice and cards to identify them as persons who were dishonest gamblers.

Presently, poker can be played both online and off, as well as in a myriad of video games. Texas Hold 'Em is wildly popular, however old favorites such as 5-Card Draw and Trips to Win are still among some of the favorite games played. Playing poker is fun and it is a great way to spend time with your family and friends, playing cards, tossing chips and some good natured ribbing.

If you're been putting off learning poker or you just want to get back in the game, you only need chips, a table or poker table topper and a few decks of cards and you're ready to play!

There's More to Poker Than Texas Hold'Em

Virtually everyone knows how to play Texas Hold'Em Poker these days, but how about giving your game a bit more variety and a unique flair by playing some other poker variations, that have been all but forgotten at poker nights across the country these days?

One fun game is a variation on 7-card Stud, called Baseball. This is a great game for beginners, as it's fairly easy to play. Baseball is dealt like 7-Card Stud, with a few variations. In Baseball, all threes and nines are wild. If a player is dealt a four face up, they receive another hole card. Some play with even more variations, such as the "rain out" where if a Queen of Spades is dealt (exposed) the pot is canceled and split among everyone who is still in.

If you're really set on Hold'Em, there are several variants besides just Texas Hold'Em you can play. Omaha is another popular Hold'Em game, though it's been overshadowed. Omaha is a great game for players of every skill level, and can help to even the playing field if you have players with mixed skill levels. In Omaha, you have nine cards to choose from. Each player is dealt four face down cards (hole cards).

Then the Flop is three cards dealt face up on the table. The Turn, a fourth card, is dealt, then the river, a fifth card dealt to the table. The five cards on the table are community cards. When playing games such as these, an automatic shuffler for multiple decks is a great idea to keep the game interesting. Try the Automatic 2 Deck Shuffler and then a dealing shoe to help things move along smoothly.

No matter what time of year it happens to be, there is nothing more thoughtful for a poker enthusiast than a great box or case to hold their precious poker chips. After all, a true poker enthusiast is sure to have more than one set of chips that they like to keep handy. Most players do not even like to play if they cannot use their favorite style of chips. This is when a chip case or box to hold all of their chips can come in handy when they want to transport them from game to game.

The nice thing about a poker player is that they are fairly easy to shop for when it comes to various accessories. Good Father's Day Gift Ideas

Start thinking ahead now for a great gift for your Dad. Your father has probably received enough ties, cologne and shaving equipment to last him a few lifetimes and if you want to get him something to show how much he means to you, yet you want to get him something he can really use - use these tips to narrow down a great Father's Day gift for your Dad.

If you're father is a sports buff, get him a pair of tickets to his favorite team's upcoming game or even better score him a set of season tickets to his favorite sports teams game.

Music is another great gift idea. If your Dad enjoys the big band sound to the hip hop of today - get him a small collection of CDs or better yet - get him an MP3 player and load it up with his favorite music.

Dads that love photography will enjoy the gift of a new camera. A book on photography tips will also be appreciated and make it a digital camera so he can easily upload, edit and send out his photographic masterpieces to share.

Is Dad a fan of poker? Get him either table top poker table or a full blown solid table to enjoy his favorite game at. A table top that fits over his existing table will be great if he is an occasional participant. If he's an avid player, get him a full sized poker table and a new set of casino style poker chips to use when he plays.

Use these ideas to make your next Father's Day gift one that Dad will treasure for years to come.
