Insider Tips for Choosing a Poker Table

You never thought it would happen to you. You had no idea what all the fuss was about. Why did everyone love getting together for those games of poker? What was the attraction? And so you gave in a played a few hands and quite simply : you were hooked. Now you're planning poker parties are your own home and you're shopping around for a poker table of your own - but which one?

A good poker table is one that you and your friends can enjoy playing cards at. One of the main features of a good poker table is a roundness or octagonal shape. This enables everyone to be facing everyone else all times and will allow for more players to be seated as opposed to a square table. Also it is important for all players to have equal access to the middle of the table.

A good smooth surface is also a necessity. The cards should be able to slide easily without turning over unexpectedly. Wooden poker tables should be finished to a high polish to make them slick. Sturdiness is another factor that you will need in a poker table. With all the players leaning on the outside of the table with their elbows and the occasional slapping down of cards, a poker table has to be strong enough to take a little abuse from the players.

Size is another consideration, the poker table should be a size that allows all players to reach the middle without having to stand up or lean too far into the table.

How often you play poker will be another factor in choosing your poker table. If you only play occasionally, a poker table top that fits over another table will be useful and can be put away until you need it. If you play on a regular basis, a full poker table will be in order to meet your needs.

Yes it's February, But Let's Talk St. Patty's Day...

You really don't have to be Irish to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. This year, use this holiday to celebrate with your friends and enjoy a poker game get-together.

You'll only need some basics to have a great gathering:

*Finger foods themed green such as deviled eggs colored green
*Cut up veggies with a ranch dip colored green
*Drinks - colored green wherever possible
*Create-Your-Own-Sandwich board with a selection of meats, cheeses and fillings
*Opt for some fun Irish themed music or enjoy your usual favs

Last but not least, have a game of poker ready to go. If you don't already have a poker table you can opt for a table top. ESPN Octagon is a full 48x48-inches and is a octagon-shaped reversible tabletop. You can play blackjack on one side of the table and poker on the other side. When folded, this tabletop is only 24x48-inches and will fit nicely in its own nylon bag for easy storage. There are durable trays to hold your poker chips as well as a place for your guests to put their drinks.

It doesn't have to be a lot of work to plan a get together. More and more people are choosing to have casual get togethers that include playing poker. Make sure you have a good set of poker chips and you'll have to decide if you want some simple plastic chips or you'd like the casino style clay chips. This year make it a point to spend your St. Patrick's together with your family and friends - the bonds of friendship and closeness are only made stronger with every fun get-together.
