Poker Tells Part II
In the last article, we profiled two of the most common poker tells, here are more so you can round out your ability to read the other players at your table.
Anxiety
Anxiety typically occurs in people when they have a monster
hand. Certain physical changes happen such as flexing of muscles, eye pupil dilation which is why many professional poker players wear sunglasses. A dry throat is another sign of anxiety, watch for frequent drinking to nail this tell. The voice of someone feeling anxious will typically be a little higher pitched.
Some professional poker players know to stare at the vein on the top-side of your face for blood pressure changes. During a bluff, the player may demonstrate anxiety and show it in some of the above ways, but if he's bluffing he knows he's going to fold if raised so little anxiety may be displayed.
Peeking Hole Cards
This is usually a tell that a player has a good hand but not a great hand. He is looking to see if he should stay in the game at this point because he's not sure he can beat the other players and he's usually deciding whether or not his hand is strong enough at that point. How strong his hand is will show in other tells, such as eyes and facial expressions.
Use these tips to "read" the other players at your next poker game, the more you play, the better you will get.
