Poker Tells Part I
A tell is a the way many poker players "read" what other kinds of hands other poker players have. Professional poker players will tell you, everyone has a "tell" that is, a habit, behavior or reaction that "tells" what kind of card they just drew or were dealt. Experienced poker players will often give out false "tells" just to fool the other players. Here are some of the most common poker tells.
Watch the Eyes
The eyes truly are the window to the soul and that's very true in poker too. This is why so many professional poker players wear sunglasses or visors/caps when playing, they know the truth can be in their eyes.
Two examples of eye tells might be a player that stares a little too long at his hand may have some big hole cards. A player that is looking around the table at everyone, he might be sizing up the other players because he has a good hand but one that can be beat.
Facial Expression Tells
Many professional poker players try to disguise their entire face by wearing a cap and looking downward. This is to avoid the classic stare-down that poker pros are famous for. They may try to study your face for nervousness that will give away a weak poker hand or look for repetitive movements such as raising eyebrows when you get a card that isn't what you needed, telling the other player that is watching you that he can beat you. You may have obvious unhappiness in your face when your hand is weak, and conversely, you may show a contrasting show of confidence when your hand is strong.
Some people are very easy to read in their "tells" work on getting your poker face and practice a few false "tells" to add the element of surprise in your next poker game.
