Beginning Blackjack Without Looking Like a Newbie
If you're a beginner in the game of blackjack but you don't want to give away the fact you're new to the game with a bumbling error; knowing some buzz words will help you look more professional and give the people you're playing with a feeling, you're no newbie to the game.
One of the first terms a blackjack player should to know is "going bust". This means that your hand is over 21 and you automatically lose that round. Going bust is exactly what you do not want to do when you play the game.
If you say "surrender" or "I'm out" it means that you forfeit the hand because you are unhappy with the cards that you have been dealt on that particular hand. Certain casinos will return a minimum portion of your wager if you don't like the hand you've been dealt but many places will simply take your money and ask if you'd like another hand.
When you get dealt a good hand and you're feeling lucky about the next card to be dealt, tell the dealer you'd like to "Double Down". Doing so will double your original blackjack bet under the terms that you win with the next card dealt to you in this round. If you don't win, you lose.
Another good term to know is "Split Pairs". This means that you have been dealt two cards and they have the same face value. Such as two eights or two tens. You can split them up to give you two separate hands to play. This will increase your odds of making blackjack and winning that hand.
Knowing when to use the right terminology will help you look like a pro the next time you play blackjack. If you would like to host your own game in your own home, get a blackjack set and have a professional set up. Your friends will think you've been sneaking off to Vegas on a regular basis and honing your blackjack skills!
